Truck Racing: Renault Trucks stays consistent in Misano

Just back from Istanbul, the trucks competing for the Truck Racing European Championship came together again at Misano in Italy this weekend. The MKR Technology-Renault Trucks team once again pulled off four podium places in four races. As a result, Markus Oestreich moves up to third place in the championship while the team reasserted and strengthened its lead in the team rankings. The race was also an opportunity to highlight the Renault Trucks "all for fuel eco" initiative and the manufacturer's various applications.

Four races and four podium places - this is coming to be something of a habit for Renault Trucks-MKR Technology! It looks as if the team is making consistency its trademark! And that is reaping benefits for the championship, with Markus Oestreichand Adam Lackofirmly retaining their third and fourth places, while Markus Bösigeris ranked sixth. In the team stakes, Renault Trucks-MKR Technology is still way out in front with 213 points. The new season is already looking very good.

In parallel with the competition, Renault Trucks took advantage of the event and the presence of so many drivers and customers to prominently display its production vehicles. These included the Magnum Legend in the Misano paddock - the special edition celebrating the legendary vehicle's 20 year history. An important place was also given to the Premium Optifuel, devoted to saving fuel consumption and fitted with the Optiroll feature, a "controlled freewheeling" function which fully exploits the vehicle's inertia to save even more fuel.

A number of demonstrations were also given to customers and other spectators, featuring all the applications for iPhone, iPad or Android. Some of these are designed to make the driver's work easier, such as Time Book, the driver's log for the 21st century, NavTruck, the only "HGV dedicated" GPS available as an application for these platforms, or Deliver Eye which enables a geo-tagged photograph to be sent justifying a late arrival or prove that goods have been damaged.

There are also applications that have a more entertaining purpose such as Renault Trucks Racing, the truck racing simulation videogame, now available in a high definition version for the iPad which certainly impressed visitors, as well as the Drivers’ Photo Album/Truckers Gallery application enabling enthusiasts to share their photos of trucks with the rest of the world.

The Misano event was also an opportunity for winners of the "best mechanic of the year" competition organised by Renault Trucks Italy to get an insiders' view of the race by joining the official Renault Trucks-MKR Technology team throughout the weekend.

Renault Trucks welcomed almost 1,000 customers and guests to its stand and in a special grandstand overlooking the main straight. In terms of the overall organisation, the total number of spectators over the weekend was estimated to be in the region of 30,000. Renault Trucks looks forward to seeing its fans at the next race, taking place on 9 and 10 June, at Jaramain Spain.
